WHAT'S HAPPENING AT ANN STREET
UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
EDUCATION
Ann Street has many opportunities to help
people grow in their faith.
For adults there are regular on-going Bible studies as well as
occasional programs on specific topics or in particular times of the
church year. Other studies not listed may be offered throughout the year. Please call
the church office or check the bulletin for current classes, days, and
times.
For children in grades 6-12, in addition to Confirmation Classes as
scheduled, the United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) is a fun and
energetic program for grades 6-12. The UMYF meets Sundays from 5:30 to 7
pm for a meal, fellowship time, and a brief program. The UMYF also
participates in community youth events, missions trips, and a variety of
day and overnight trips. For more information about the UMYF, contact
Rev. Anne Sims, Leslie Zeek, or John McLeod.
LOGOS is a mid-week program for children/youth in grades K-12 that runs from September through April of each year. Every
Wednesday from 4-7 pm, children engage in Bible study, worship skills,
games and crafts. At dinner, "table parents" facilitate a family-style
dinner and model good table manners. Through their interactions with
other children and adults, every participant is taught how to treat
every person as a child of God.
Transportation is available from Beaufort Elementary and Tiller School,
and scholarships are available.
For more information, contact Leslie Zeek, Children's Ministry
Coordinator.
Children's Church for those children ages 3-6, is held as a part of the
worship services each Sunday morning.
Vacation Bible School is offered as a special summer study program for
children.
Church School for all ages is offered at 9:45 each Sunday morning, with
a nursery staffed by professional care givers. Our Church School program
offers individuals the opportunity for deeper study of God's Word and
information on how it applies to the Christian life.
MUSIC AT ANN STREET
Music has traditionally been an important
element in the Ann Street program. Ann Street welcomes guest musicians.
If you would like to share your talent in music, please contact Joe

The Matin Choir sings at the 8:25 service on Sunday mornings. Matin
Choir practice is held on Thursdays at 6:30 pm upstairs in the sanctuary
building.
The Chancel Choir sings at the 11 am service on Sunday mornings. Chancel
Choir practice is held upstairs in the sanctuary building on Thursdays
at 7:30 pm (8 pm when preparing for a special program-please check the

The Joyful Ringers are Ann Street's handbell choir. Practice is held
weekly upstairs in the sanctuary building at 5:30 pm on Thursdays.
Our church organ was built by the Schantz Organ Company, oldest organ
manufacturers in this country. It consists of a Great Organ with Mixture
II Ranks and Chimes, Swell Organ with Octave Fagot and Tremulant, Pedal
Organ complete with Octave and Super Octave. A trumpet section was added
in 1994.
Many other instruments are used to broaden the music program at Ann
Street, including trumpet, violin, flute, keyboard and guitar. An added
audio-visual projected lyrics system has been used recently on occasion
to enhance our worship experience.
PRESCHOOL
Our Preschool is an important ministry of
our church. We week to offer quality, loving child care for members of
our church and community.
It is the mission of our Preschool to foster a child's natural ability
to learn and grow physically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. We
do this by using Christian curriculum and encouraging each child to
think and explore their environment through the use of language and
communication, social integration and intellectual stimulation.
Our Preschool operates throughout the year and offers part-time as well
as full time programs.
CHURCH ORGANIZATIONS
UNITED METHODIST WOMEN: The United Methodist Women
(UMW) at Ann Street is comprised of groups of women from all age groups,
meeting in "circle" units monthly. The UMW, through the circles, sponsors local and global ministries of the church. This creative and supportive fellowship of women seeks to make a difference in a broken world through Jesus Christ. Circles meet the third Monday and Thursday of each month, except July and August.
UNITED METHODIST MEN: The United Methodist Men (UMM) is a group of men of the church sharing fellowship and spiritual development through monthly gatherings and organized activities. The UMM leads worship annually on "Men's Sunday" and sponsors a "Handyman Ministry" which assist community members with simple household tasks and maintenance.
Fellowship Opportunities Fellowship dinners are held from time to time during the church year. These dinners provide a time for the church family to enjoy each other's company, have a delicious meal and enjoy an entertaining or informative program. Minimum cost for the meal.
The "Young-at-Heart" or YAH Club meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each
month at noon. Following a meal (there is a nominal charge), a mix of
programs and fellowship brings people together. Pat Wesson coordinates
the YAH Club.
Ann Street's T.E.A.M. (Totally Energized Adult Ministry) coordinates monthly bus trips to the interesting places in Eastern North Carolina on the church's bus. The Adult Ministry also coordinates Flu Shot Clinics in the fall.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry, or Knit and Pray group, meets every Tuesday
at 10 am in the Eure Building parlor. Beginning to advanced knitters and
crocheters can be part of a great mission and fellowship.

Jan and Ron Masten chair

Disaster Response
Ann Street has two trained emergency response teams able
to respond to community and domestic disasters.
The Early Response Team (ERT) is trained by MERCI/UMCOR to provide a
Christian presence in the wake of a disaster. This team is equipped to
assess damage, deal with immediate needs such as removal of wet drywall
and insulation, tarping a roof or removing a tree from a rooftop. This
team responds after the emergency situation has stabilized and when
activated by the MERCI center. This team typically stays in the field
about 3 days at a time.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is trained by the Carteret
County Emergency Management Office. This team responds to local
emergency situations when called out by the Police Chief or Fire Chief.
The CERT team is trained in basic disaster response skills such as fire
safety, light search and rescue, disaster medical operations, shelter
training, and traffic control. Using these skills, CERT members can
assist family and church members as well as others in their neighborhood
and workplace following an event and can take a more active role in
preparing their communities as neighbors helping neighbors.
